At Easley Engineering and Design, we work to meet each challenge that comes our way. No matter how complex or involved each new engineering project is, we have the experience and expertise to know exactly what is required to achieve success. While not every project we completed in 2019 is listed below, below is a subset of projects that display the range of engineering services that we provide.

Custom Rambler Home

Custom Two-Story Home

Pier Replacement

October 2019

Located in Olympia, WA this custom home was designed and hand drawn by James J Stewart Design. This home includes large open areas, a three car garage, and a nice covered back porch to extend living space into the back yard.

Easley Engineering and Design worked closely with the Architect to provide structural details regarding the foundation, timber framing, truss package, and wind/seismic resisting systems. We also provided our CAD services to develop standard concrete, timber, and connection detail sheets for the builder to use during construction.

November 2019

August 2019

Located in Olympia, WA, this custom home was designed and hand drawn by James J Stewart Design. It features a panoramic window front on the north side, large open spaces for entertaining, a spacious outside deck space and a two car garage.

Easley Engineering and Design worked closely with the Architect to provide structural details for the foundation, retaining walls, timber and steel framing, and slab on grade construction for the basement. Again, we provided our CAD services to develop and deliver professional structural details for the builders use during construction.

Situated in Mason County near Spencer Lake, this project included the design of a new pier that will be 50 ft long x 6 ft wide with a finger pier on the end that will be 14 ft long and 12 ft wide. The pier will be supported by douglas fir timber piles driven into the ground. One interesting aspect to the structural design was considering how to hold the dock down during a flood event when the dock would be fully submerged. Design is finished and construction is expected to begin in September of 2019.

NORTHSHORE GANGWAY AND FLOAT REPLACEMENT

HOME ADDITION AND

SHOP SPACE

HOME RENOVATION

March 2019

Situated on Hood Canal near Union, WA, this project consists of designing an aluminum gangway and two new floating dock structures that will be 30'x16' and 20'x16'. Design will include standard timber framing and connections while incorporating environmental considerations and requirements.

The new structure will incorporate current design code requirements for structural and environmental permitting. It will also be designed to accommodate an existing gangway Estimated construction date is Spring, 2019.

June 2019

This project, located in Olympia, WA consists of designing a two story addition to an existing home. The new addition would be approximately 1600 SF, include a shop area, out door deck space and a wide open floor plan. Major design challenges included a re-entrant corner irregularity, a wide open floor plan, and incorporating an outdoor living space between the main building and shop area.

The design was finished in April 2019 and is currently in the permitting phase. Construction estimated to begin June, 2019

January - February 2019

Located near the heart of old Tacoma, WA, this project consists of providing drafting and structural engineering services for a residential home renovation. In particular, the homeowner is interested in removing a load-bearing wall in order to create a more open space.

This project includes performing structural calculations should the wall be removed to confirm that the existing timber framing and member sizes, types, and proposed spacings are adequate for the intended use of the structure. All framing elements and their connections will be checked utilizing current design codes and requirements. Both the gravity and lateral resisting systems will be checked for material adequacy to resist the imposed loads.

ALUMINUM GANGWAY

January 2019

Located on Hood Canal, this project consists of providing drafting and structural engineering services for a residential replacement of an existing gangway.

While relatively straightforward, the design of a gangway can have it's engineering challenges. In particular, setting the correct elevations such that the transition between the existing pier and new gangway will be seamless across all tide elevations during the day.
